I wanted to be the first to confirm the rumors that Henry Red Cloud WILL be coming to Dreamtime 2008. Henry is an extraordinary 21st Century Lakota Warrior who lives on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota and is the direct descendant of Chief Red Cloud, one of the last war chiefs of the Lakota Sioux. Henry will be leading daily Lakota - "Four Doors of Wisdom" - Sweat Lodges during Dreamtime and will also be presenting each afternoon - Songs and Stories of the Lakota - Past and Present.
Henry is the owner of Lakota Solar Enterprises (LSE) and has been working in partnership with the Colorado non-profit organization, Trees, Water & People (TWP), helping to bring renewable energy to tribal communities across the Great Plains. Through this partnership they have raised the funds and installed more than 200 solar heating systems in the homes of poor Native American families on ten reservations.
LSE and TWP have also installed wind turbines, a solar electric system, planted windbreaks for more than 130 additional Lakota families and built a straw bale house. Most recently they have created the Red Cloud Renewable Energy Center - a sustainable living and training center at Pine Ridge to help Native Americans learn about and install family and community level renewable energy approaches.
Henry is looking for a person or two to show up early at Dreamtime and prepare the sweat lodge area for the daily sweat lodges. If anyone here is interested, please contact me at richard@treeswaterpeople.org
